Three Spring Cleaning Tips
Spring weather always gets me in the mood to clean out drawers, declutter rooms and become a little freer of physical things weighing me down. I am one of those strange people who enjoy spring cleaning! I love bidding adieu to the winter doldrums and welcoming the warm, fresh breeze spring usually delivers.
Over the past couple of years, my kids and I have adopted some of FlyLady’s spring-cleaning techniques. Here are three of our favorites:
1. The 27 Fling Boogie: This is probably my all-time favorite “clear the clutter” activity, and my kids love it too.
Give each child two grocery sacks or plastic tubs. Have them go into their room and choose 27 things that need to be thrown away and 27 things to donate to charity. Make it a race by setting the timer or challenging them to see who can get done first.

2. Five-Minute Room Rescue: When the weather is nice, no one really wants to spend days cooped up in the house. Set a timer for five minutes, assign everyone to the same room, and hit it hard seeing how much cleaning you can get done before the timer goes off. The five-minute room rescue is quick, efficient and you’ll be surprised at the results. Then, when you’re done, head outside!
3. Clean Out the Fridge Meals: Have you ever looked into your fridge or pantry and wondered why you keep going to the store when you already have food? Pull out all that food, and make meals for the week using what you have on hand. And, once the fridge and pantry are empty, that’s the perfect opportunity to clean them thoroughly.
For even more fun, have your kids help with menu planning! There are many websites where you can search for recipes based on specific ingredients. Use them to your advantage and see what delicious meals you can come up with.
Spring cleaning doesn’t have to be something you dread. With a little bit of innovation and new techniques, you can actually enjoy it!
