While it hasn’t officially hit summer yet, where I live it sure feels like it! Living in the south hot temperatures creep upon us rather quickly and while it’s technically spring the weather certainly doesn’t feel like it. These are the perfect days for picnics with my family and day trips to the mountains, the beach, and parks.

Most of my posts here at Land O’Moms have been about traveling. It’s one of the things I love to do most. I travel a lot for business, but when I get a chance to travel with my entire family, I’m in heaven. There are so many day trip adventures we take and they don’t cost a lot of money. Day trips always become wonderful family excursions for us.  Oftentimes, we simply plan a trip to a new park in our city, take in fresh air, and chow down on a healthy lunch. For our family, we tend to go to the same parks all of the time, but it is refreshing to try new ones in our area as well. Of course, our children love the parks where they can swing and play on the equipment most, but sometimes the parks with nature trails, bird sanctuaries and scenic overlooks make for a wonderful day outdoors as well. You can never go wrong with nature!

Even though we don’t stray far and most of the time we stay in our city, getting out together is a treat for all of us, especially now that the cold weather has broken and it doesn’t seem to be coming back until fall.  When we want to take a weekend trip, we usually stay in our state because there is so much to explore from the mountains to the beach to historic landmarks. Our daughters love staying in different hotels when we travel, so we try to give them as much variety as possible. Sometimes we stay in large chain hotels with a household name and other times we stay in warm boutique hotels with an individual appeal. I haven’t stayed in a bed and breakfast yet, even though I would love to. I just need to find one that welcomes children.

Traveling for our family is a way to teach our daughters the importance of seeing the world and exploring. We are North Carolina traveling enthusiasts. We have seen much of our great stats. We’ve also already hit many of America’s biggest cities – New York, San Francisco, Philadelphia, and Chicago. Now, we’re working on getting overseas!
